KV62

KV62
The tomb of Tutankhamun in the Valley of the Kings. It was discovered intact by Howard Carter in 1922. It consists of three rooms on one level: an antechamber leading to the main burial chamber and a storage annex off the antechamber. Only the burial chamber was decorated with painted reliefs. These works of art depict the funeral of the king carried out by his successor, Ay. It appears that the tomb was hastily built upon the unexpected death of the king. The rich contents have been removed to the Cairo Egyptian Museum, but the inner coffin and the king’s mummy remain in the tomb.
